Playing cards is an activity that has been popular for centuries throughout the world. Over the recent decades poker has become very well liked and played by millions. Texas Hold’em is the most common type of poker that's played at casinos online and off. The logic of the game is fairly simple.

You and all players will be dealt two cards to start with. You will then have the chance to bet on other cards that will be turned face up on the table. You will be allowed to put your two cards together with the 5 that the dealer turns up to create the best hand possible. At first 3 cards will be turned up. This is called the flop. Once everyone has placed their bets then another card will be exposed. This card is called the turn. Then again bets will be placed before the final card is turned up. The last card is called the river. After all the cards have been turned up there will be one final round of bets before every ones cards are shown to determine a winner.

Most casinos offer a variety of betting limits including no limit, pot limit, and limit. Limit Hold’em means there will be a specified betting limit in each betting round. Pot limit means a player can bet as much as they want up to whatever the pot amount is. In no limit you may bet as much as you like and you may also push all in, putting all of your chips or cash at risk.

During play you will notice 3 small buttons which are labelled dealer button, big blind, and small blind. The dealer button is given to one player usually when the game first begins. This person will be the last one at the table to pay the big blind. The next person in line will have to post what’s called a small blind and the next person will post the big blind. Usually the dealer will either have all the players draw a card from the deck or they will go around the table turning up cards to see who starts with the dealer button. Whoever has the best card usually wins. If two people have the same card the winner will be determined by the suit of the card. Spades, hearts, diamonds, and clubs are the order in which they go.

5 Card Draw

Five-card draw is one of the simplest forms of poker to learn and is loved by many. While some places choose to play it differently most are played the same. Wild cards may be chosen in the game. The dealer will also determine how many draws will be allowed and the maximum amount of cards that players will be allowed to draw each time. "Three draws of three" would mean that each player will have three opportunities to discard as many as three cards in exchange for three new ones from the deck.

Normally a betting round occurs and ensues each individual draw, so there will always be an extra betting round aside from the amount of draws. For example three draws would mean four betting rounds. The order would consist of the dealing of the cards, first betting round, first draw, second betting round, second draw, third betting round, third draw, fourth and final betting round which leads to showdown. Straight draw poker is where 5 card draw is played without wild cards. Again the winner would be determined by the best hand.

7 Card Stud

One well known poker game is called 7 Card Stud. The object in all poker is similar but the structures vary between games. When playing seven card poker the dealer begins by giving each player two cards face down on the table. The third card will be dealt face up for all other players to see. The highest card showing face up will allow that player to open up the first betting round.

Once the betting round is complete another card will be dealt face up, followed by another betting round. This is repeated two more times which will result in two more cards face up and two more betting rounds. The last and final card will be dealt face down on the table. The last betting round will then begin.

The player that has been opening each betting round has the best hand of the cards that are placed face up. For example, if most players have mix matched cards and two players have a pair then the one with the highest pair would open each betting round.

Once all the betting rounds have been completed each player will select 5 cards out of the seven given to create the best handle possible. The player with the best hand will win the round. If there are two hands the same then the pot will be split between them.

Omaha High

The most common types of Omaha games are Omaha High and Omaha Hi/Lo. Within Omaha High the betting limits are Limit Omaha High, Pot Limit Omaha High, and No Limit Omaha High. There will be a number of cards that will be dealt so they are visible to all. Players will then use their cards along with the community cards to make the best possible hand.

Description: Pot Limit Omaha High, and No Limit Omaha High.

Description: With Limit Omaha High the betting limits are limited. Players can only bet the pot amount when playing Pot Limit Omaha High.

Description: Players may choose to bet any amount or push all in when playing No Limit Omaha High. There are no betting restrictions on no limit games.

Game play begins with the blind bets. Once this has been done each player will be dealt four cards. Once each player has been give their cards the first betting round begins. After betting is complete three community cards will be dealt face up for all players to use. This is called the flop. Then the second betting round will occur. The 4th community card known as the turn will then be exposed. With another betting round to follow, and then the final card known as the river will be turned up. Once all 5 community cards are on the board the final betting stage known as show down will start. The player with the best hand will win this round.

Omaha Hi/Lo

Omaha Hi/Lo is played almost exactly the same as Omaha Hi but with a bit of a different outcome. Once all betting rounds are complete and all cards are exposed its possible for their to be two winning hands for different reasons. There may be a winning high hand as well as a winning low hand. It is possible for one person to win both for example if they have Ace, 2,3,4,5. This would give them a straight for the high hand and lowest cards possible to win the low hand. In order to win low hand the players 5 cards must consist of 8 or below. So if someone has 2, 3,5,6,7 they would win low hand if no one else had lower. If no players have a qualifying low hand then only one winner will be determined as an All-High hand.
