For those who do not know what this word ‘Omaha’ means it is better to know its root name. It is also known as “8 or better High Low Split Poker”. It is touted to be the future version o Poker. Omaha is a variant of “Texas Hold’em”. There is a difference between the two. In ‘Texas hold Em’ there will be five community cards that are dealt face up. In Omaha four cards are given to each of the players and they are dealt face down. The pot is split by the best low hand and the best high hand. As with the case of many split pot games there will be many chips on the table. This is because some players will bet for high hand, some for the best low hand and some will try for the whole pot.
 Omaha will also be interesting because each player here deals with four cards as opposite to two cards in ‘Texas hold’em. Because we have four cards to choose out from naturally players will not have any trouble in forming a hand. There will be times when this is confusing because players may try to find the best five poker hand out of four cards they receive and five community cards. But if a player can play ‘Texas hold Em’ then it is almost sure he can play Omaha. Another difference with these two is that with Omaha a player can form six different hands to start with because he receives four cards at the start. Also here there will be more number of players in each pot with more chips. The most common winning hands in Omaha are the flushes and straights. But two pair which is often used as a winning hand in Texas Hold’em rarely works out here. This is because of increase in number of cards. Even if a player has a high hand because there are three unpaired communal card with ranking of 8 or lower there is a high chance someone has made a low hand and the pot will be split.
 Initially for each player there will be four cards that will be dealt face down. Then the betting round takes place. During the first round a player can raise his bet or make a call. He can also fold his hands. When this first round of betting is over three of the communal cards are turned face up. Then the betting round continues and players may bet. The process is similar to other games. Now the fourth communal card will be turned and then betting takes place. Then fifth card is turned and betting continues. The first three communal cards are called s flop. The fourth card turned is called as turn and the fifth cad is known as river.
As said the best five card low poker and the best five card high poker splits the pot. The important thing to remember is a player must use two of the four cards he has in order to construct a hand.
